    Hi

I have the above HandyCAM and need to get my sound recorder from my mixer into the Cam. Not sure how to connect this and what additional equipment I may need(?).

The mixer is a MACKIE ProFX12.

    Thanks!

  2. Output a mic level signal from your mixer to the camera's mini mic input .

All you need is an adapter cable.

What is a 'mic level signal'? Does is come from the RCA plugs or what?

If it helps, here is a link to the manual of my mixer, showing all inputs/outputs etc.: http://www.avstudio.pl/documents/mackie_pro_fx8_manual.pdf

Mine is the Pro FX 12

  4. Your biggest headache will be finding a way to get the audio into your camcorder. You have a model that uses Sony's proprietary MIS hotshoe to connect stuff like external audio. On models that come with the interface, you can use this to patch a line level out from a mixer into the camcorder. On ones without the part, you have fewer options.

If you're handy, you can get a MIS shoe pigtail, and make yourself a little audio input box for the camcorder. If not, I think Pearstone makes/made a MIS shoe with a 3.5mm input jack. IIRC it is mic level. You'll have to either keep output levels very low or buy a box to pad from line level down to mic level.

If you're serious about shooting video with good sound, you'll get at least a prosumer camcorder. That's what I did after all my efforts to control levels through a MIS shoe failed when the tape rolled.
