BNC output to laptop

Hello,


I have a monitor with a BNC output.
I need to capture and record the video on my laptop but I do not know how.


Do I just need a BNC to USB converter?
If so, can you suggest me a video capturing software?

Unless you count pass thru, monitors have inputs, not outputs.
If yours is one of those exceptions, a simple bnc-to-rca adapter plug will make things much easier, as most capture devices (usb or otherwise) have composite rca inputs.

Again: Monitors are DESTINATIONS, not really sources.

When you capture, you want your laptop to be your destination, with something else as your source. Adapters like you have listed won't do squat unless you have a proper SOURCE.

Maybe if you enlightened us about this magic monitor you have...

Oh, and, I haven't used that cap software, but NCH stuff is NOT known to be very good.

It has 2 cameras - one of them records the environment (what people see).


What captured by that camera (the video) is sent to a monitor.


The monitor has a BNC output.




So, what I need, is to capture and record that video on my laptop.


Is it clearer?

I have tried the free version of Debut. It is just OK (certainly not the greatest) but it won't work for what you want to do without a compatible capture device. Capture devices often come with their own software which you should probably try first. ...and try any third-party capture software first before giving them your money.

VGA on a laptop is for output only, not input. Even if your laptop did have a VGA input, that adapter will not work. It is either for a specific device that outputs (or accepts) S-Video or composite video signal via a DB9 connector, or to allow a composite video signal or S-Video signal to travel through VGA cabling installed in an auditorium or conference room, for example. To capture composite video with a laptop you need a USB capture device with a composite connection.

That is the mobile addendum to the 501 manual. I'd have to see the full manual (mainly for the monitor capabilities)...

I didn't see anything in the text that indicated the monitor has a BNC pass thru. As Cornucopia mentioned, that is the only thing that makes sense and would certainly be pretty unique.

And the illustrations in the file didn't come up for me.

In the IMG_0495 you can see the two monitors I have.Each of them shows the outputs from, respectively, the two cameras located on the eye tracker.


In the IMG_0494, you can see the output (a BNC with a RCA adapted jack) of the monitor displaying what the participant actually sees. I need to capture and record that output.

The Startech SVID2USB2 is a decent capture device. As I recall, the included GrabBee software comes with it is not especially good, but the hardware is known to work with many third-party capture programs. The Hauppauge USB-Live2 is another good option that is widely available: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_usblive2.html The manufacturer's provided WinTV v7 capture software is OK, but if you don't like it, there is third party capture software that will work with it too.

First, route that BNC/RCA cable to a TV with composite input. Verify you get a picture. If you do, then any standard definition composite capture device should work.

I have a computer with an antenna input (IMG_0522) and the same video RCA video output (IMG_0523).
I need to plug the RCA into the computer through the antenna by using an adapter or something like that.


I called Radio Shack and they told me to get an RCA modulator.
Before buying it, I would like to get some advice from experts.

Yes, you need an RF modulator to convert composite video to a TV/cable channel. They usually use channel 2, 3 or 4. For example:

Picture quality is generally worse than a straight composite connection.

All you need is a short length of RG6 coax cable to connect the RF modulator's outgoing connection to the antenna input on the PC. You can get one with the connectors you need for a few dollars at any store with an electronics department.
