Sony Vegas HD Platinum 11 - Jittery Panning

Hi there

I am trying to pan down a still image of a screenshot - so not a screen capture of me scrolling, but rather a panning of a still image. But it comes out all jittery.

Using Vegas HD Platinum 11.0, I have 8GB RAM.


Can anybody give me a clue on how to fix this? I'm a bit of a newbie, but I thought that this really should be quite easy, and I have no idea where to start troubleshooting.

Your issue isn't a jittery image, it's crystal clear frames on a motion. The proper name is strobing. To get around this many programs add motion blur to make the motion seem more natural to the eye.

3 options:
Vegas Pro has a motion blur envelope -- but that's not the version you're using.
Change the speed of the motion so the effect is less conspicuous.
Add a slight blur manually when the image is in motion.

Turn off "Resampling" in the clip's properties before rendering.

smrpix: I will see what I can do with HD Platinum. I'm not sure how to "add a slight blur manually", but I will google it and see what I find. Do you mean actually manually change the image so that it is blurred?

budwzr: does this apply to a still image? I only ask because you used the word "clip". I'm panning on a still image.

Use the "linear blur" effect which is part of the standard package. Adjust the angle so the blur is going in the same direction as the motion and adjust the amount to taste.

You can animate the amount from 0 to (your preference) and back again as the motion starts and stops to acheive a more "natural" looking movement.

So I've been in and tried so many things that I have lost count. The linear blur doesn't seem to remove this jittery (strobing) effect. I also turned off resampling, tried the "reduce interface flicker", tried prerendering, rendered in higher fps, And nothing really looked any good at all.

I'm having trouble finding the graphics acceleration switch in my system to see if I can turn that off. But all the instructions that show how to turn this off lead me to a button on a "Trouble Shooting" tab in control panel ... but the button is greyed out.

Oh and I also tried placing the same clip on a different track and offsetting it by a frame (and reducing the opacity). I saw this mentioned somewhere as a sort of poor man's motion blur. But that didn't work either

That YouTube video is also 23.976 fps which is about as bad as you can get for silky smootheness. Maybe try a faster frame rate.

How big is the still? Must be huge. Try reducing it.
