Hello all,
Can someone help me with a mystery of the .MXF variety?
Basically someone has sent me a drive containing a Premiere Pro project that has a mix of MP4, .mov and .MXF files within it. I am supposed to re-edit their project but I use FCP. So basically I tried to use the XMLs they sent with the drive to reconform the project in my preferred software.
All the MP4s and the .movs reconnect fine but when I try to pull in the .MFXs they say the length is different. So I go to Finder and check out all the .MXFs, it turns out they're each no longer than 30 secs long even if the corresponding file in FCP and Premiere is up to 14 minutes. Yet at the same time the file size is the same as the original 14 minute file.
I tried opening all these in Quicktime... What did I get, 30 seconds. Importing them into FCP and Premiere... again, 30 seconds. Open them up in VLC player... they're actually the right length, 14mins.
So I guess the file is there and intact but yet I can't seem to get more than 30 seconds out of it.
I've tried downloading transcoders and various plugins but I'm pretty lost now so any help you might have will be more than gratefully received.
Thanks

I'm not sure FCP can handle the Sony XDCAM format very well.

You will likely need to convert to an intermediate format like ProRes.

See if you can do it in the trial period of this converter...

You can use ffmbc/ffmpeg to reencode mxf to ProRes no trial software needed,..
Other then that, without some additional infos (detailed MediaInfo output), it's just guessing,..
