hard subs are burned into the film and therefore are always there. soft subs are the selectable type you can turn off or on. then there are forced soft subs that are supposed to play without turning them on.
i would guess you are referring to the latter type. you'd need to identify what sub stream it is and rip it with the a and v.--

Yeah, he might be talking about forced subs for foreign languages. Sometimes they have their own small separate subtitle stream. Sometimes they're part of the much larger main language track and are marked as forced. It can be a chore to track them down sometimes.

i usually google something like "kill bill non english subs" and download them from subscene or opensubtitles. just make sure to open the srt and see if it's actually what you want.
