Hey guys.
I downloaded a copy of a DVD online that is about 6,5 GB so I went and bought a few dual layer discs. It was the first time I burned one of these and my first burn was successful (it was a ISO image so I didn't need to do much). The DVD I downloaded recently though wasn't an ISO but a folder 'VIDEO_TS'
I used nero for these first couple of burns. Reading some threads just now I find it's no good software for DL burning.
Although I did try ImgBurn a few hours ago, that attempt to burn the folder was a failure too.
The problem is, the menu works fine when I play the 'VIDEO_TS.IFO' file or when I make an ISO with ImgBurn and play it on the computer, but when burned to the DL disc and playing it, two of the menu options aren't working. Not when read on my computer or the Blu-Ray player (both work fine with DL discs as demonstrated by my first burn which also included a menu).
On the Blu-Ray player the second attempt DVD (burned with ImgBurn) has some trouble playing one of the sub menus but actually makes it in the end, the other is very choppy and the selection arrows won't show, just the video/animation background.
In my second attempt this is what I chose for the layer break (which I think has to do with the playback problems):
And here is some more information if relevant (from original folder, not burned disc):
The menu videos that get choppy are in the same file: 'VTS_02_0.VOB'
I really don't wanna keep wasting DL discs, I only have one left. I could use those 8.5 GB for something else.

could be the usual dvd-dl problem, as in they are just bad discs. the only one that ever worked decently was verbatim dl +r.
or since you have no idea of if the dvd was authored properly it may just be a badly done dvd.--

Download and install VLC (it's free - click on the name itself in this post to find it) and open the ISO with it. Use it to see if the iSO even plays correctly.
Part of your problem is also that you probably didn't use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. EVERYTHING else is crap for DL media. And if for some reason you must use DVD-R DL instead of +R DL, then buy Verbatim for those too. -
i have had excellent results with Kodak Dl+ discs
i never exceed 4x burn speed
what burn speed did you use ?
i have never found a good reason to get in a hurry and burn at faster speed (never mine what the ratings are), fast burns always seem to have problems -
