  1. VIDEO Custom Format: Which is better to retrieve 352 X 288 or 320 X 240?

Capture Settings: Which frame rate is better..25 or 29.97.

VIDEO Format: What resolution should be used?

All that and any other grand ideas you guys have about getting the best from my VHS....I'm hoping to get it to VCD later on.

My system; ASUS 1.7 board...ATI AIW 8500DV video card.

  2. depends if you are in north america or not

north america is NTSC so 352*240
    europe is PAL so 352*288
north america TV is 29.97 frames
europe is 24 or 25 frames or 23.97 or something like that.

if they are Movie vhs tapes, they could be 25fps - not sure on that one? never needed to find out.

your best bet is to capture at 352*480 (352*576) then encode to 352*240 (352*288) without any deinterlacing. the video will be much better than just capping at 352*240. even better if you cap at 704*480 then convert to 352*240, but not as much inprovement as the first.

of course it can get more complicated with things like digital cable etc but thats pretty much the basics. if im wrong or missing something, people will respond.
