I want to backup my minidv tapes (to free them up).
I'm wanting the highest quality video and audio possible (heh, doesn't everyone).
My question is . . .
. . . should I convert it to svcd or x(s)vcd
OR
convert it to divx using divx 5?
Thanks for your opinions!

If you want a backup, I'd compress the avi's and back them up to data cd-rs.
If you want to watch your backups on your TV i don't think divx 5 is gonna work (could be wrong with all the new players out there)
If ya have say a 50 inch plasma display hooked up to your PC i'd
say life's treatin ya well!
I've authored some home movies from miniDV and you almost have
to go with XSVCD because the source tends to have too much jumpy
movement and wild ass panning.
OBTW: at $5 - $8 a 60 min tape, miniDV is not a bad backup option if
you factor in your time.....I mean it in the nicest way.
