So far, I haven't been able to get smooth motion, when using the huffyuv codec. Regardless of whether I encode on the fly, or post capture encode, the picture ends up choppy.
I am not dropping frames, and CPU usage doesn't go any higher than 50%, while using VirtualDub.
While the overall quality of the pictures is great, I just can't seem to eliminate the choppy motion.
Any ideas?

I discovered the answer, in case anyone else has been having the same problems.
I found a post with some information, regarding the huffyuv codec. The poster said that while huffyuv is an excellent capture codec, it's not optimized for playback. In other words, it's better at encoding, than decoding.
I tried re-encoding a test huffyuv capture to DivX, and it played fine. -
Try playing your captured avi with huffy compression in media player. I'm sure you will find that it plays ok. Like you said VDub is not meant for playback.

I test all of my captures using Windows Media Player. I think my system is just not suited to playing back huffyuv encoded files.
I like your Chewbacca pic, by the way.
