DV capturing to Mac

Hi there,

Basically I'm having a bit of an issue capturing footage from quite an old Sony Handicam to my Mac.

It turns out the DV out port has broken but I still have an A/V out and USB port. Is there a way I can use either of these to capture the DV tape onto my mac?

I only have Adobe Premier pro and iMovie, so if I need other software, what would that be?

Help is much appreciated. I have a project due in asap and no idea how to fix my problem..

Moving you to our mac section.

I think you can only copy still images using the usb port and for the a/v port you need a capture device for you mac.

Yeah, i think he is right, you could go AV out to a RCA-DV Converter and then into your mac. It works, but the converters will run you around $100

You can use an external analog to DV device like a Canopus/GV ADVC or ADC Pyro to Firewire.

Or you can use a Mac compatible analog capture device like Elgato (various) to USB2.

You won't get quality digital video out the USB port. Sony cams output webcam 320x240 quality.
