I am trying to connect a DVD player (component out) to a HDCP supported computer monitor (DVI-D in). Is this possible? If so, will the image be horribly skewed?
Also, will the audio carry through the component to DVI-D cable? If it doesn't do you have any recommendations on how to utilize the 5.1-channel audio output for sound in headphones?

First, you would need a powered component to DVI-D converter or a powered component to HDMI converter (plus a HDMI to DVI-D cable). Component usually allows 1080i maximum, but monitors only understand progressive video, so the maximum resolution you could use is 720p. However the DVD player might only provide 480p. The monitor would stretch the video to fit, so it probably won't look very good.
Unlike HDMI, DVI-D doesn't have pins available to carry audio. Although I have not personally tried any, if the DVD player has S/PDIF out, there are gaming headphones that accept S/PDIF input. http://www.amazon.com/Sharkoon-X-Tatic-Surround-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B003H4QIC0
You might be able to buy a small TV for the price of all this gear.Last edited by usually_quiet; 17th Jan 2012 at 23:13.
