Want to capture from my Motorola DCH3416 DVR

Hi,
I have the Motorola DCH3416 with my cable provider. I want to try to get some recordings off there. I used to use a WinTV PVR but it doesn't work with my Win7 64-bit new computer. I've tried using this CapDVHS software with my laptop and Firewire, but that didn't work either. What devices can I use to do this and also capture video from a VCR? Is there a DVD HDD recorder that would do the trick that wouldn't be too expensive? I don't care if I have to record with component video and audio. More important to keep it cheap, after all I'm capturing SD content anyway and the HD content I have on my DVR doesn't need HD quality.

Probably CapDVHS won't work because you're using Win7 64bit. Try doing either a dual-boot to XP 32bit (or use a VM in XP 32bit). There really aren't more options available...

So there's no way to do this via a DVD HDD recorder? I thought you could simply connect any analog source and record to a blank DVD-R or DVD-RAM?

S-Video + White/Red RCA audio to any DVD recorder or computer capture device.

Sorry, thought you meant direct digital -> digital, not digital -> analog -> digital. There's so much loss that way, I rarely consider it anymore, even as a last resort (which it still is, but possibly not for long).

Unless you go the IEEE-1394 route*, digital -> analog -> digital is the only other option. Two ways.

SD - S-Video or composite + white/red RCA audio to DVD recorder or capture device.

HD - Analog component + Digital audio to a device like the Hauppauge HD-PVR.
