Need help with Hitachi DV-P323U

Hi I am trying to get my Hitachi DV-P323U region free but I am having trouble I found this code here to do it but its not working right

turn player on

open the lid

press 9 (4times on remote)

press 1 for region 1

press 2 for region 2

press 0 for multi region.

on screen should display new region.
Thats the code I put in no menu comes up and I am not sure what I need to do the instructions seem to be simple enough but I need a little help on it I have a Japanese import dvd of Transformers Robotmasters to test it out but again i need help can someone help me please
