OK guys, firstly a big thank you as I've learnt a great deal through this forum already but be warned, newbie alert so apologies for any naivety! Ultimately I want to edit a home made music DVD by fading out both the sound & on the video, to black on certain tracks. I think the best way is to download the DVD onto my PC & use VirtualDub for the video & avisynth for the audio then rewrite to a DVD again. Am I going down the right path or is there a better/simpler way? Any feedback welcome as I am a complete novice at this.

If you do not mind to spend, you can try this. You can do all kind of fades and do not have to split audio from video.

A basic NLE would be more intuitive than using VirtualDub/Avisynth.
