  1. Is it now possible? As far as i was concerned it wasn't, unless subs were hardcoded as part of the picture, or if you used divx6 or later, having the .divx extension. Recently i got hold of a couple of avi's with subtitles included as streams. How's is that possible? At first i thought they could be divx with extension changed to avi somehow, but media information inside MPC-HC showed codec as XVID.

    Any thoughts?

Avimuxgui can make an avi with switchable subs. But you need a player that supports it or vsfilter installed.

The AVI container supports ( at least ?) four stream types: video, audio, midi, and text.

Is it only that this program can make subs appear? I also tried vlc and kmplayer and you were right, subtitles didn't show, nor was there any subtitle track available. So it only seem MPC-HC so far supports this function.

I've asked before here and on the Divx forums, never found a real answer why Divx dropped support for these
subs, but if you install the old Divx 685, you can play them by accessing the icon in the lower right when the video plays.

It will work in any player (as far as I know) using dshow.
