Hey all! So I recently noticed that windows media player, windows movie maker and adope premiere pro cs4 can't play microsoft video 1 .Avi files. They do play in VLC but that's not the solution I'm after since I need them to work in Premiere pro and movie maker as well.
I'm on Vista ultimate 64-bit. I've tried to install k-lite full and even k-lite x64. Also some codec pack with a shark as it's icon, don't remember the name though. But none of them could fix it.
Just a few months ago I didn't have this problem but it's been too long for me to do a system restore that would make it work.
So does anyone know how to solve this?
Cheers for now!

use mediainfo (view=>text) . If it's ms video 1, you can

enable ms-video 1 in the ffdshow VFW configuration in the decoder tab (set to libavcodec instead of disabled). It's also called "CRAM" . Premiere will use VFW

To get it to work in WMP, enable it in the ffdshow directshow configuration. WMP will use directshow

Note there are 2 separate configurations (one for directshow, one for vfw), both usually have ms-video disabled by default

CS4 is 32-bit, so you need the 32bit version of ffdshow or it won't "see" it

one of the codec packs might have screwed up directshow (ie. wmp) but VLC doesn't rely on system installed splitter or codec, so it should work independently of whatever you have installed on your computer (for dvsd or cram or anything)

are you sure the files work ? not corrupted? (either dvsd or cram)

do you have another computer or a friends' computer to check ?

I've performed system restore after every codec pack I installed that did not solve my problem. So I don't know if they messed something up. I highly doubt it.

Files are ok. Tested them on 2 other pc's and they play fine.
I don't know what's going on but it looks like the only solution would be a clean OS install....

	SOLVED!!

After finding a Divx file that was also unplayable I went ahead and deleted any trace of Divx. MS Vid 1 files does now play along with the dvsd dv files.
So it looks like Divx screwed up all my video codecs. Will install it now to see if the problem occurs again.
