  1. Greetings:

Is it possible to watch my DVD ripped collections while traveling? In other word, is there a way to watch movies from my home network over the internet on any device such as smartphone, tablet, laptop and HD-TV etc.? What are the requirements (hardware, software etc) to achieve this?

My movies reside on a NAS D-Link DNS-321, XP Pro and Window 7 desktop and my Window 7 laptop has an HDMI output. I currently watch my home movies using Patriot Box Office media player.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Airvideo on a iphone works well. Also works on ipad and ipod touch. It's cheap too.
I bought it for my iphone. Works with 3g connection or wifi. It uses ffmpeg and other software.

Other than that I have no idea. Possibly something like a slingbox maybe.

    Ditto. Thats your best bet.

But you will have two restrictions on video quality - your home internet upload speed (how fast it can send video) and the download speed on your mobile device (how fast you can stream it on your portable player).

I've never used one but they have the ads on the radio all the time. Just make sure you get the one that can do hd if you really want hd, I believe there are multiple versions.

You have to set up your NAS and router to do that. And you'll need one of those free IP forwarding domains.

  9. Yah, but vcloud.tv isn't cheap. Up to 48$ a month depending on the plan. Their free plan has restrictions.

What ever you choose you will have plenty of annoying network issues to deal with ... convert and take them with you is the easiest method.
