You bought a cheap, unsupported, knock-off capture device and may or may not be able to find working drivers for it. These things are usually sold to inexperienced buyers attracted by the price and YouTube gaming videos made using something called an EasyCap.

Unfortunately there are a few different products sold under the name EasyCap and they are not all the same thing. The chips used can be different and the drivers and software that come with them vary. Some installation discs are only good for use with Windows XP SP 2. Others claim to work for Vista, but not many say they work with Windows 7.

A Google search of VideoHelp would reveal lots of reported problems with the drivers/software for various devices sold as EasyCaps, and possible sources for alternate drivers and software.

I have spent considerable time trying to help people use these devices with an OS that they are not intended for. Do yourself a favor and don't waste much time on this. If you can't make it work within a few days, save your money for something better that comes with newer software, and has some customer support plus compatible drivers for your version of Windows 7 available at the maker's website.

Here is one example, the genuine current model EzCAP
http://www.ezcap.tv/index.html , which at $36 US dollars is still reasonable for a video capture device.

Make sure your laptop exceeds the hardware requirements of a new device before you buy something else.

My recommendation for three new stickies, or entries to a "Minimize Forum Pollution FAQ":

Question: How do I make this "acquired" MKV play on my blu-ray player?

    Answer: Buy the movie!

Question: How do I make the USB port on my PVR transfer video files to my PC/External HDD/etc?

Answer: Just like my kitchen stove was not designed to balance my checkbook, those USB ports were not designed to transfer video data, at least not in the way that you think. You would quickly also find out that they have entirely different functions if you knew how to read.

Question: My EasyCap doesn't work to capture my gaming, TV hick show, family video of the Annual Deer Huntin' with a Rake Tournament, etc - WWHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! HEEEEEEEEEELP!"

Answer: Stop looking for cheap penny solutions to your problems. If you had one iota of patience to do your research, read Forums and reviews, and saved some money from your substance abuse habit then you would have enough COMMON SENSE to either buy the REAL THING or know about other QUALITY alternative products that are also PROVEN instead of toys made of paper!!!
I hate VHS. I always did.

Normal hardware install routine does not apply to capture devices ... must use the following steps.

1: The device drivers are installed simply by right clicking the correct INF files and selecting INSTALL ... repeat if more than one.
    2: Reboot pc
3: NOW connect the device ... windows will do its thing

Failing to do the steps incorrectly will lead to issues.

  8. EasyCAP is under $9 on Amazon & on their page there several people talked about how you are supposed to put it on the computer step by step.

  9. I had to switch to an EZCap116 card because my Diamond VC500 would not work when I moved to a Windows7 computer. According to Amazon the EZCap 116 was supposed to work with Windows 7, But I could not get it working until I finally found a link on a forum to this site:
    http://easycapexpertti.mybisi.com/product/165039/EASYCAP-DC60-v31B-VIDEO-CAPTURE-MACXP...ta_886560.html
The file was in a rar format, so I had to first install an application to unzip that format.
That finally worked for me. I don't know if that is the card you have, but it might be worth checking out.

I believe the link came from a post by jarmo on this forum:
