  1. Hi All,

I realize my query may have well been answered several times and I have been reading this and various other forums trying to find an answer, but there is so much information I realise I may well have missed what I'm looking for, if this is the case please just link me to the correct thread.

Basically I've just built a new PC, so I thought I'll use my old PC as a MediaPC to to store and Play my DVD collection, I have around 600 DVDs about 20 HD-DVDs and about 40 Blu-Ray discs that I wish to store, I've a completely clear 2TB drive and can add others as required.

After a bit of research I thought I'd try RipBot264 as it seems a simple easy to use program, I'd like to do all 3 formats with the same easy process if possible and I decided MKV using H264 would be the way to go.

I tried a few sample discs, I didn't play with any of the settings on RipBot however I selected MKV and 5.1 CT AAC-LC 320kbps as the audio.

I've tried one Blu-Ray disc (Casino Royale) this worked correctly, I've tried one HD-DVD disc (The Fast And The Furious) this also worked correctly.

However I've tried several DVD discs and they always come out with the audio shifted out of sync with the picture, usually by at least a couple of seconds. I've tried DVDs with a Dolby Digital source track and a DTS source track.

I've also tried ripping the DVD to hard disk first with AnyDVDHD and I've tried using CloneDVD mobile on VOB Passthrough settings and then using RipBot264 on the resulting VOB file and the same audio sync problem occurs.

I had K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.5.0 installed before I installed RipBot, then installed AVISynth as requested when RipBot first ran.

I am using MPC-HC as my media player.

So is there a simple solution? or should I be using different software? Basically I don't mind what I use I just want an easy way to store and play my collection without too much hassle and at a resonable size/quality ratio, I know nothing about encoding and too many options just confuse me which is why RipBot looked like a good choice.

Try handbrake and staxrip for dvdrips. They are using same x264 encoder so you should get same quality but with better dvd decoder.

    Many thanks Baldrick,

Just downloaded them both, tried Handbrake so far(it looked a bit simpler than StaxRip), sound worked OK but it seems to be quite a large file to me (2.70GB from a 5.39GB VOB file), I'll have to try and tinker with the setings and see if i can find a good compromise between size and quality.
