DTS-ES 6.1 to 7 mono WAVs

Does anyone know how to extract the 7 discrete wavs from a DTS-ES track?

Thanks, but I have already tried that; eAC3to does not handle my DTS-ES files and either exits with an unexpected error or never finishes.

I am trying to get 7 individual wav files, not 6.

Has it been encoded with discrete channels and not matrixed ? DTS-ES doesn't automatically imply 6.1 discrete channels

I'm not 100% sure, but according to this, the files that I've tried are DTS-ES - discrete
(The Running Man & Lord of the Rings; all R4, original DVDs)

Is there a way to tell?


I've extracted the DTS tracks using MeGUI's DVG creator and would normally re-encode to AC3 640 kbps, but eAC3to does not like my DTS-ES tracks.
I've got access to Sony Vegas 9 and I've used it to fix the Star Wars R4 DVDs that had the Dolby Digital EX flag turned off. If I can convert the DTS-ES to DD-EX, I'll be happy.


I'll upload a screen-grab of the error it gives me when I get home from work.

You can use mediainfo, it will tell you the variety of DTS you have

In order to use eac3to to decode 6.1 , only sonic or arcsoft decoders will function properly to output 7 channel from DTS-ES 6.1; the free libav will only support 5.1 (so you have to downmix to 6 channel)

I thought you wanted 7 mono wavs, not AC3. You would use "wavs" in the commandline

add the -down6 switch if you want to downmix to 5.1 (6channel) AC3

edit: actually the sonic decoder version you're using only decodes at 5.1 if you read the log , you might have to use arcsoft or a different sonic decoder version to get 6.1 (7 channel)

I hang on this with one question.
I have a 6ch (5.1) ac3 is ther a way to get this to 8ch (7.1) I have a 7.1 audio system and would really have sound in those last two speakers..
Or maybe that is not how it is supposed to be ?

you can try to upmix it to 7.1 (search google there should be some threads on it), or use Dolby Pro Logic (I think IIx or something, not sure) , eitherway it's not going to be as good as a mastered 7.1 track

Well, I actually want to convert the DTS-ES to DD-EX, but if I can extract the 7 discrete channels as WAV, I can use vegas 9 to combine into DD-EX.

well you need a proper decoder , in order to "hear" all 7 channels (6.1) or decode 7 mono wavs, otherwise you can only downmix to 6 channels (5.1). Even when you use the free libav or other decoders, I think that channel information is discarded, not properly downmixed, unless you use a proper decoder that can "see" all 7 channels

I just tried with arcsoft and it produced 7 individual WAV files, but there was something wrong with them. Too much high-frequency and noise.
Same occurs when I try to create an AC3 file.

At least now it's kinda working...

Use eAC3to and select the target type as "wavs". This will save each audio track as an individual .WAV file
