    Not clear what you have.

HDV format camcorders stream 25 Mb/s MPeg2 live to iMovie or FCE/FCP over Firewire. Is that what you are asking?

I'm not aware of an HDMI (uncompressed) capture device for a Mac laptop nor am I aware of an SDI input for other than Mac Pro towers.

Be aware that AVCHD camcorders or cameras don't stream compressed video live. Only uncompressed. You can buy HD webcams that compress over USB2.

I'm still not clear what you have. HDMI (uncompressed) to firewire (flv?) would require a hardware box that doesn't exist. But did you say your laptop lacks a Firewire connection?

    Some alternatives:

A Mac Pro tower with SDI card will accept uncompressed video (not HDMI). You will need a large RAID for capture.

A PC with PCIe bus can use a BlackMagic Intensity Pro card which can capture HDMI uncompressed to RAID or can compress on the fly to MJPEG. For streaming, the Intensity Pro can also feed the Adobe flash encoder if the CPU can handle the processing live. None of this is available on a Mac.

In the future, USB3 has adequate bitrate for uncompressed HDMI/SDI video but few computers or hard disks are yet fast enough. See the BlackMagic Shuttle for PC Windows.

If your Mac does have a Firewire port, the obvious source is an HDV format camcorder (e.g. Canon HV 20/30/40).

I was looking at going in that direction, yet nice one for pointing out that particular camcorder.
