I have an old JVC GF S550 and cannot figgure how to get the thing to record I can watch vhs tapes on it but cannot get the camera to record

That thing would probably cost more to repair than it is worth.

Just throw it in the trash and buy something new.

Have you check the tabs on the tapes to see if they are open or closed maybe broken off, maybe thats the problem.
