    Hello,

I just installed ffmpegx on my Macbook Pro.I'm asked to install different tools such as:mpeg2enc,mencoder and mplayer.I'm also a user of another software (PS3 Media Server) that uses precompiled binaries of all these tools for transcoding purposes. My question is... can I use somehow those binaries with ffmpegx??I tried to make ffmpegx locate these binaries by adding a link to their location but since these binaries are part of the app itself... I was unable to do so.Should I copy those binaries to some other location and use them with ffmpegx or should I go with a fresh installation of newer versions of mencoder and mplayer?
I've read that PS3 Media Server needs specific versions of these tools for it to work well, use of other versions which are not the "official" ones could cause bugs during runtime.I don't want to have multiple versions of the same application... what do you guys suggest me to do??

    Thanks for your help.

ffmpegX needs the binaries of specific versions / build date and checks for that. You should get the binaries from the suggested URLs, as those are the ones that will work. The GUI must know how to talk to the command line tools, as the syntax, options, capabilities and bug fixes sometimes change between versions.
You shouldn't feel bad about have multiple instances of some binaries on your computer. They are not in each others way (they get copied to an application specific folder) and they're not that big in file size (0.5 + 17 + 16 MB).
