I've download a video in divx format (avi) and wanted to get it on a VCD to play on my player. I loaded the file with TMPGEnc using the NTSC VCD settings and encoded it.
On the bottom of the window it displays:
Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
After encoded I used Nero Burning Rom to write the mpg file unto CD. The file checked through ok, and burned normally. However, after I put the VCD into my player I notice that the picture is bigger than it is supposed to be (more zoomed in to the overall picture), that is, I'm only seeing the inner part of the rectangle of picture and not the whole thing. The video I am trying to make has subtitles and because the picture is zoomed in it cuts out all the text.
This is the same for 3 different players, on 2 different televisions. When I run the dat file on my computer using Windows Media Player however, it goes through normally without any problems. Even on full screen all the subtitles are still visible and in their proper place on the screen.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The first thing i'd check is under the advanced tab under TMPEG's settings under 'Video arrange method' make sure that is set to full screen(Keep aspect ratio).
Also may I suggest that you try a templete. I do all my DivX to VCD w/ sefys SeVCD templete. I dont change a thing.....I load my video, load my audio load the templete and hit start. they come out perfect EVERYTIME
-Hope this helps

Also, I and some others beleve that NERO is not the best program for burning S/VCD. You may want to try to use VCDImagerGUI to make a bin/cue and use CDRWin to burn your flick!

A TV never displays the whole signal. 10 to 20 pixels are cut of all around. Therefore, tell TMPGenc to encode "Layout" at Center (Custom) and put the custom resolution at 320x208. Keep the main MPEG resolution at 352x240. This will result in a video with a black border so that you can see your subtitles. As an added benefit, the black takes almost no bandwidth so more bits get allocated to the visable portion of each frame, increasing quality.
