  1. Has anyone noticed that the tools are not being updated as often as they used to be? I have been away for a while (some members happy with that arrangement) & checked out the tools that I am using and was thinking of updating them and found that they were still the latest builds, take HC Encoder for example, hasn't been updated since the 06-May-2008, thats more than 2 years, also DVD Rebuilder, hasn't been touched since December 15th, 2006, thats almost 4 years, I know the old saying "don't touch what isn't f*%$ed" but surely they could have improved them, technology stands still for no man. There is always optimisation to play around with.

Maybe you need to move with the technology

The author of DVD Rebuilder is dedicating his time to BD Rebuilder instead. DVD Rebuilder works well - what needs to be done to it ?

HCenc was updated in April this year to 0.24 beta.

With the change to bluray/avchd and the rise of the player device (WDTV etc) and streaming, the old tools for DVD -> DVD transfer aren't that important any more. Most people don't rip a DVD to burn it to another DVD any more. They rip it to convert it to AVC and put it on a HDD.

Thats probably why foxtel IQ is so popular.

DVD Rebuilder doesn't install the latest version of HCEnc, although it is possible, with a little dicking around, to drop the latest version in there and have it used.

I tend to use the RSS feed for the Tools section to keep up to date with updates and new tools, and if in doubt, use the link to the tool's home page to double check.

Could be that some dev's are just enjoying their summer off. A good majority of software that's listed here a videohelp is produced by individuals or small groups so they may just not have the time to work on their stuff as often as they like. I know that's the case for me. I've just not had much time to work on my little hobby projects (although I am currently working on a linux HCbatchGUI update).

Of course guns1ingers points are valid as well. I personally haven't been doing much dvd burning lately. I've been putting most of my stuff to x264/mp4 for playback on my tivo and htpc.
