Must Have Video Tools Checklist?

I'm a technical person but I've never been an expert on the world of digital video. I have a small collection of random tools to let me do some basic things like editing, rotating, and converting videos.

I'd like to get a list of really good must have tools/codec packs to do all the basics and maybe a little more. Nothing advanced but a good base of tools to install on a new machine. The tools should provide some of the basics like splicing/cutting video, rotate videos, convert from one format to another, etc.


Can anyone suggest tools for such a list or tell me what you'd add on your "must have" list?

Currently I use:
VLC player
FFDShow
MovAvi Video Suite 3.4
DVDVideoSoft's Free 3GP Video Converter (converts phone 3GP videos to AVI)
DVDVideoSoft's Free Video Flip & Rotate

Don't use any codec packs. ffdshow should be sufficient, along with a few others (like Xvid/DivX, and maybe Microsoft's Windows Media codecs, depending on whether or not you need them).

I find I use these tools most often:

VirtualDub with Lame MP3, Xvid codec, Lagarith codec, various filters
Audacity for audio editing
ffdshow
Any Video Converter for odd format conversion (RM, Mov, etc.)

ImgBurn
MediaInfo
AnyDVD HD
DVD Shrink

Lots of others I use occasionally. Individual usage probably depends on the formats you mostly work with. With me it's mostly AVI types. I don't do much with MPEG.
