    I have successfully created many DVDs based on footage from my 2 Canon HF10 cameras. The last attempts, though, have not been pretty. When the persons on the movie are moving the "edge" of a person is zigzag'ed, when movement stops the person appear as normal again. Not sure if this makes sense....

    I have uploaded a clip here http://www.frederiksbergteater.dk/~dvd/zigzag.mpg (clip removed)
    Pay attention to the guy with the beard's right arm and the contrast with the light wall in the beginning of the clip.

    This issue does not exist when viewing the footage in VegasPro. I am rendering to DVD Architect PAL Widescreen video stream and when I view the output - either in VLC Media Player or previewing the created DVD in DVD Architect Pro the problem is there.

    I suspect I have messed up some setting in Vegas, but who knows?

    Any hint is highly appreciated

  2. This looks like a screwed up interlace resize

    I'm going to guess that you disabled deinterlace in the project settings. It's counterintuitive, but it's required to be on (either blend or interpolate) for vegas to do a proper interlace resize.

    Try it out on a small sample

    Thanks poisondeathray,
    Changing deinterlace to interpolate or blend improves it significantly . However, it is not all gone - my other project settings are

    pixel format: 8 bit, Motion blur type: Gaussian, Field order: upper field first, Pixel aspect: 1,000 (square), frame rate: 25 pal.

    Any recommendations for change ?

    deinterlace=none: http://www.frederiksbergteater.dk/~dvd/none.mpg
    deinterlace=blend: http://www.frederiksbergteater.dk/~dvd/blend.mpg

  4. Try changing the field order.

  5. What sort of footage did you shoot ? 1080i50 ? if so , you should use that template. All your project settings look to be in order

    But what where your export settings? Can you post another video sample with the new settings but "its not all gone" artifacts? You can post it directly here if <30MB

    Try changing the field order.
    HD is always upper field first, so I would leave the field order. A reversed field order issue would cause jerky fwd/bwk playback, not these artifacts

    I used the match media settings in the VegasPro "new project" window. The footage is "HD 1080-50i (1920x1080; 25,000 fps)"

    The export (I use the "render as" in VegasPro) settings are MPEG-2,
    Audio: None
    Video: 25 fps; 720x576
    Use this setting to create a PAL video-only MPEG-2 file compatible with DVD Architect.

    I have linked to two samples in post #3, but also attached here (called none.mpg and blend.mpg). Edit. The upload failed-

  7. Oh, I see what nic2k4 was getting at.. the export is BFF (bottom field first). You did a field order swap. Not sure if that will account for the difference. I would stick to UFF (top field or upper field first), since your source was UFF. You can access that in the settings DVD PAL Widescreen template, push the custom button, video tab, field order. Personally I would also checkmark stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox)

    NLE's are known for doing lower quality interlace resizes. You can control it better by using avisynth methods, but it's a bit complicated if you're not already familiar with avisynth basics

    Ok, tried exporting with UFF as suggested, it is slightly better although it is hard to tell. It will possibly become more evident when playing on a DVD or DB. Will do some research alson on avisync also.

    Thanks once again
