  1. How to record a live video stream into several segments with a maximum duration, or maximum size, or maximum number of frames?

I want to grab a live stream (either HTTP, RTSP, MMS, RTMP, etc.) and record it into these files :

rec-1.mpg (or .avi , or .mov, or .flv, etc., it makes no difference)
    rec-2.mpg
    rec-3.mpg
    ...
    ...
    rec-n.mpg
    ...
    ...

each recorded file must be long, for example, at most 500 frames.

Which program enables me to do this, and how?

    thank you

I wouldn't even THINK of trying that "on the fly"...if that is indeed what you are thinking of.

    yes that's what i meant
why should it be not feasible?

the recorder starts recording the stream to the file segment-1.mpg, starting from frame 0
    ...
when the recorder reaches the frame number 500 ,
it closes the file and opens a new one: segment-2.mpg
then, it starts recording frame 501 to the new file, until it reaches frame 1000,
    ...
    and so on

    it doesn't seem so impossible

Flash Media Live Encoder can do that by time duration or file size. It's a free download from Adobe.
