I want to shrink a DVD using DVD Rebuilder. I've read that it always creates a DVD that is 4.32GB. Then I want to take the output and use a DVD authoring program to add menus and chapters. Will there be enough room left on the disc for all that stuff? Could I also run into problems if there is some data too close to the edge?

Set the "TargetSectors" hidden setting in the ini file to adjust the output size of DVD-RB.

There is detailed information on how to do it in the Sticky in the DVD-RB forum section of Doom9.

  3. Whether or not there's enough room depends on the size of the menu's you make. Ordinarily you'd have 40-50 MB left over, plenty of room to make decent motion menus with audio, at least for the main menu. If you're making static menus, you'll never be able to fill the DVDR. I usually only need 15-20 MB to make a 30-40 second motion main menu, with static menus for the scenes menus.

Author it first then run it through DVD Rebuilder.

Thanks for the info. I will have to look at TargetSectors (or HCTargetSectors), and it's good to know 20MB is probably on the high end of what menus will require. I noticed jdobbs said there might be problems if you write all the way to the edge, so I'll have to keep that in mind.

And I may need to do the authoring after running DVD-RB. I don't know about all DVD authoring software, but I just found out TMPGEnc Authoring Works does not let you author if you have more than a DL DVD worth of stuff.
