    ...is this possible?

I've been using Vegas v9.0c to edit m2ts files I've created with a Hauppauge HD PVR.
On the Hauppauge, by default, it creates the files with 4 R-frames and I've bump the bitrate as high as it'll go (13.5Mbps) to get the best quality as I can (considering a 1080i resolution...). 4 Reference frames is alright, I would prefer more but that's still acceptable.

Using Vegas for editing the file is nice but when I export I don't see any option anywhere regarding the number of R-frames it will use. It appears that by default, it is 2.

I hope there's a way to increase this...is there some option I'm missing somewhere?
I don't see anything regarding adjusting R-frames (as well as other settings I'd like to adjust: B-frames, Trellis namely) in either the Render As options or in the Preferences options.
I do try to make up for the drop in reference frames, I bump the bitrate up to 16Mbps...I know that multiple encodes on a video stream will cause a certain degree of quality-loss but this is why I'd like to bump such settings like R-frames up, in an attempt to retain quality.

    Thanks in advance...

  2. Vegas' h264 encoder sucks (both mainconcept and sony are limited versions). Neither uses b-frames (at all) or control over keyint (GOP size), or control over very many settings

You can use higher ref frames in Mainconcepts' encoder, but not Sony's. Diminishing returns after 4 or 5 anyway

You could use debugmode frameserver and x264 , or encode to a lossless intermediate and x264
