  1. Hi, I'm new and I had no idea where to go to.
I'm trying to watch a movie with someone in another country. Basically we get onto MSN play the movie at the same time. I've done this twice. One I used my Region 1 Blu-Ray player in my PC with Cyberlink PowerDVD and the other was with iTunes. She used a standard DVD player, Region 2.

In both cases, we would start up synchronized but the video would slowly de-synch until eventually she was several minutes ahead of me. It became very noticeable after about 15 or 20 minutes.

My understanding of the two tells me that this should not happen. Does anyone have any thoughts on why it happens and how I can stop it?

I've taken a region 1 DVD and exported it using VLC into 25fps then played it with media player while the original plays with PowerDVD. No synching problems.

  2. Movies in NTSC countries run at 24 fps. In PAL countries they are played at 25 fps. This is done to match the speed of TVs in the respective areas. So movies shown in PAL areas usually have ~4 percent shorter running times.

Regarding your conversion from 24 fps to 25 fps with VLC -- it probably duplicated every 24'th frame to keep the same running time.
