How do I burn .ass files to dvd with convertxtodvd

I have wanted to be able to burn .ass file to dvd mainly so that when i burn softsubbed anime to dvd the screen doesn't crop the subtitles, and i would alos like to kepp cetain differnt positioons ubs in place as weell
here is what i tried.

1. Opened the .ass file in aegisub
2. exported the file in .ssa format
3. converted the .ssa file to .son format using maestro
4. used sontovobsub to convert the .son to .idx/.sub format
& finally
5. burned the .mkv anime file with the .idx/.sub subtitles to dvd using ConvertXtoDVD.
however the subtitles turned out transparent.
any tips i can get would be helpful

Did you look at the subs in the subtitle editor within ConvertXtoDVD - you can change colour etc..

You can fix the transparencies by opening the finished DVD in DVDSubEdit and changing them.

So? You've never watched a widescreen DVD or TV program on your TV set? The DVD should be set up so the DVD player either crops the sides and sends it 'fullscreen' on your TV set or (much more commonly) adds black bars above and below to both show it in widescreen and keep the aspect ratio.

I see. That kind of depends on how you created the subs in MaestroSBT. Ideally, if you're encoding a 16:9 DVD you created subs for both 16:9 and 4:3 display, and you load them both into the authoring program. Not having ever used ConvertX, I have no idea how it does it.

If you created them only for 4:3 display (or if ConvertX takes only one set of subs), they'll look OK on your TV set, but odd on a 16:9 TV set (kind of 'fat'). If you created them only for 16:9, they'll look 'normal' on a 16:9 TV set but a little bit odd on yours (a bit too 'skinny').

And that's if you made the subs 'selectable'. Since you already had VobSubs, couldn't you do it that way in ConvertX?

Otherwise, if you made the subs with 'No Correction' in MaestroSBT, after being burned into the video they'll look 'normal' no matter how you did it. Using either 16:9 or 4"3 correction will result in them looking a bit odd when played. But maybe not so much that's you'll find it annoying. And this also depends on the resolution of the video inside the MKV. If it's also 1:1, then fine. If it had a PAR set, then there could be problems.

To sum up, there's no way to tell what the end result will be as there's not enough information about the subs, the source video, or the settings you used in ConvertX. Just watch the finished DVD and decide if it's OK for you.

Easiest way to burn SSA or ASS subtitles to Cx2D is:
1. Make sure they are NOT included in the video you are converting or they will use the 'one size fits all' method under preferences
2.. Make sure they are NOT named the same as the video or CX2D may pick them up automatically in the left panels.
3. Click the little dialogue box on right panel under preview:

4. Click the + sign and add subtitle file. Worked the last time I tried it.

The right hand panel is useful for adding additional files, subtitles, etc.

I worked with them to get the functionality of SSA and ASS working and the last I checked they had most working correctly. There were only 1 or 2 like karaoke?? and I believe horizontal scroll that were not perfect. Everything else I believe worked.

@^ The problem with that is that the subs are to big and tend to get cut off the tv screen

Not sure what you mean by 'Too Big' but subtitles are set in SSA/ASS subtitles by the their font size setting and more importantly, the 'PlayResY: XXX' setting at the beginning of them. The position is set by their MarginL, MargionR, MarginV settings also. Below are 2 images of my original posted image only in a 4:3 screen and in different PlayResY: xxx settings on a 384 wide video. They do not overlap the screen and the size font was adjusted. I also left a little black at the bottom andadjusted the MarginV setting in SSA subtitle to display in and out of that area for whatever you choose.
PlayResY: 360
PlayResY: 480

If this doesn't help,you will need to post more information like a screen shot of the video and the start of your ASS file at least to the first couple lines of the actual subtitles.

After downloading your Zip file, I must apologize because I have No idea what you are trying to do. All it was is a group of PNG files. ConvertX2DVD usually is used for converting a VIDEO to DVD not IMAGES(png). Are these snapshots of the frames in your video? Are they the size of the video you wish to create? Are you trying to embed subtitles to translate the text in the PNG files? Do you have an .ASS subtitle file or are you wishing to CREATE one?

I posted a sample of the same subtitle in 3 separate images previously. They were in different resolutions, font sizes, positions, wrapped forms, etc so it is easy to do but even with the png files, I do not know what resolution or aspect your video is, what subtitles you wish to embed, where you want them on anything.

I would like to help but I truly must be missing something.

BTW.. if you wish to post an image, mouse over the line of items at the top of your response window and click the one that says insert image.
