I have an old computer without Ethernet port and wireless adapter but only USB port and phone jack. Is it possible to connect the computer to the Ethernet adapter to logon the high speed internet? Should I use an USB Ethernet adapter or other device?

You could also add a Network Interface Card (NIC) to the computer, if it had an available PCI slot. But the USB Ethernet adapter would be the easiest/quickest.
