I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite and I love that program. It came with Sound Forge Audio Studio and DVD Architect Studio. I've used DVD Architect a little and enjoy it so far. I've not put much time into Sound Forge Audio Studio.

I'm taking a news audio class and I need to so some multi track sound editing. For the class we use Audacity but I thought I would use Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio since I payed for it with Vegas Studio. One problem I've had with this program is trying to do multi track editing. When I put multiple tracks up like I do on Sony Vegas, only one track will play, not all the tracks like they do in Vegas.

I've been reading about this program and read Sound Forge Audio Studio DOES NOT do multi track editing. Is this right? If this correct I say this program is a near waste of time. If this program does do multi track editing please tell me how.

Also, using Audacity a little, I don't see a "split" command like I do for video editing programs. I don't see a "split" command on Sony Sound Forge Studio. Why is that? Don't people split audio like they do video? If there is a "split" command in Audacity I've not found it yet.

Finally, what's a good audio editing program that allows multi track editing? How good is Audacity? Any other pay programs that are good? I wish I had an audio program that let me edit like Sony Vegas Studio with adding envelopes and such.

    Thanks.

Don't know if this is what you want, but here is what I found through Bing. I'm curious because I too have bought this software with Sony Vegas. If you master it, you'll need to give me tips.

Ableton Live Intro $99 http://www.ableton.com/live-intro Get the download version, it has loops.

    or

Sony Acid Studio $65 http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/musicstudio Get the boxed version, the download does not have loops.

I use Ableton Live, and recommend it first. Also has support for midi keyboard, drum machine, controllers, etc. Check out Novation Launchpad and Akai LPK25 and LPD8. You're gonna want that stuff too, later when you see what you can do with digital music.

Will these help you create New School Breaks or other Electro Music?

It looks like Sony Acid is the audio version of Sony Vegas. I really like Sony Vegas Studio 10. Maybe I will give Sony Acid Studio a try.

I was thinking that way too, and because it's cheaper. But I never could get the hang of the beatmapper and linear timeline. Sony always has their own way to do things, and to me, the Acid interface doesn't work.

I downloaded a free trial of Sony Acid Studio and did not really like it although I'm new to using it. It seems like it's really made for music obviously. I was thinking - I have Sony Vegas Studio and that really has everything I need to edit not only video but audio too. I'm not looking to create music, I'm looking to edit sound. Vegas Studio also has many audio effects along with video effects. Maybe I will download and try out Ableton Live but I think Sony Vegas Studio is all I need.

Then stick with the audio tools in Vegas and Sound Forge, until you're ready for music.

Whether you're interested in music or not, nearly all video has and needs some kind of music, even the news has music. And that music needs to be royalty free, and the only way to do that is to generate your own.

Talking head video gets boring in about 2-3 seconds. Motion Graphics, Music, Sound Effects, and Dialog are critical. Ya gotta have eye candy and a beat, or you're hosed.

Bottom Line: You might as well learn the basics of all of it early on.
