I bought a AMD Athlon II Regor core X2 245 2.9Ghz from newegg
The first 1 was DOA and I threw the box away so I had to RMA it thru AMD, just 5 minutes on the phone, and about a week later I have the new cpu
I installed this lil' $66USD cpu in my 2nd PC to replace a aging 140w TDP AMD 6000+
The oem hsf is so dinky it looks like a stock hsf for a AMD 2000+
I installed the 245 w/ the 6000+ 2-pipe hsf
@ stock clock w/ +.1v (didn't bother to change v because I wanted to see what kinda' OC I could get right away) the 245 idled @ 24c*
I cranked up the system bus from 200 to 235, the cpu is running @ about 3.4Ghz, my Crucial Balistix Tracer DDR2 800 is running @ 940 (raised the cas from 5 to 6) and it is idling @ 27c*
hasn't crashed yet
gonna' run some stability tests before I really start pushing it
seems like a nice cpu for the money so far, I think it has potentual
edit: bumped up the system bus to 245, clocked @ 3.550Ghz, DDR2 800 @ DDR2 980
edit: bumped up the system bus to 250, clocked @ 3.625Ghz, DDR2 800 @ DDR2 1000 (cpu temp 26c* @ idle)

edit: up to 3.7Ghz now lol
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=788124
edit: 3769Ghz
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=788124
edit: system bus 262, 3.8Ghz, mem @ 1024 no CTD's or BSOD's yet, gonna' just run it @ the clock for a day or 2 before venturing further
3.850Ghz
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=788124
3.875Ghz
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=788275
Finally BSOD @ 3.9Ghz after Windows finished loading, this m-atx mobo has limited cpuv options, probably could get 4Ghz on a oc mobo
gonna' roll back to 3.8 Ghz

Nice OC....I've been checking out some low price Quad AMD cpu's. I haven't had a AMD cpu in awhile now. Is the AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core any good? It's only $100.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103706
How would it compare to a low end Intel Q8200 cpu? I'm thinking about that AMD Quad since it's cheap. I could build my cousin a new pc with it. Orsell her my Intel E8400 system and buy that AMD Quad.

You can see here that the E8600 whips the Propus 620 when the app isn't heavily threaded, and the Propus 620 whips E8600 when the app is heavily threaded

The Propus encodes not too shabily compared to the much more expensive Phenom II X4 965 and the Intel Q8200, it "woops ass" in encoding w/ multi threaded apps for the $
Notice in the Main Concept 1.6.1 benchmark (fully threaded) the Propus is close right behind the Q9550 and AMD 965 lol
Actually I had planned to put the Propus 620 in my 2nd PC, but I am getting a nice OC out of the Regor 245 so I will put those plans "on hold" for a while
imho

Hey! ocgw: Thanks for those links! It's very interesting how that low end AMD quad cpu comes very close to Q9550 & AMD 965 when using Main Concept. -

Hot damn!, that 45nm process is the chiznit!
Too bad it has a locked multiplier, no telling what it could do if it were unlocked

at first i was worried that i had damaged the motherboard, but luckily i hadn't. at any rate, like you, i was completely underwhelmed by the stock, small all aluminum cooler that cam with the 550, but i figured it would use it for a while until i had a chance to buy a better cooler (or yang the phenom off my thermaltake, would you believe they're still stuck together?). as it turns out i quickly discovered that this cpu runs extremely cool, even with that cheap stock heatsink my pc runs cool, even after 24 hours of non-stop running, including tons of downloading and encoding, the case is still cool to the touch and i have actually disconnected the 80mm case fan because it was making too much noise and it was annoying me.
as for overclocking, this thing, thanks to the unlocked multiplier, easily hits 3.6ghz (from the stock 3.1ghz) with no voltage tweaks, stock cooling and no heat increase and stable as can be. i would be surprised if this couldn't be clocked to 4.2ghz just by upping the multiplier with just a bit of extra voltage and some good air cooling.
next time do yourself a favor and pick up a BE amd cpu if you're planning on overclocking, for $90 i personally consider the X2 550 the best buy under $100, better than the 620 and the new tri-cores, and needless to say it's way way faster than the 9500 it replaced. -

I think I will still get a 620 for my 2nd PC just for encoding after I take care of some other higher priorities
Yeah, BE's are nice, my HTPC has a X4 940 BE

Been reencoding a blu ray all night (both cores @ 100%), the cheap oem thermalpaste I put on this Regor X2 245 has "settled" a bit, temps @ 41-42c*
