  1. Hello to all experts! I was wondering if someone could help me with the dilemma: fitting MPEGs closer to SVCD format/that is higher resolution & quality than VCD/ to a DVD-R with SpruceUp or, hopefully, Nero for the burn.
I realize it all has to do with the settings in TMPGEnc and DVD2AVI, like 720 x 480 and so on.
    Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Finik

  2. It's not clear to me what you're asking. Do you want to produce DVD compliant video, but in a form that allows you greater playback time?

Or do you want to transfer SVCD video to a DVD?

  3. Sorry for the confusion.
I am trying to fit ripped DVD-compliant MPEGs w/better quality than VCD onto DVD-R with Panasonic A03 drive. I am looking for the suggestions in the best settings in TMPGEnc to do the job, if possible.
    Thank you in advance.

  4. If I understand you correctly then, you are struggling with the issue that many commercially produced DVDs are dual-layer, and thus a direct copy does not fit onto a 4.3GB DVD-R disc?

In that case, a popular method is to use ReMpeg2 (apparently). Or you can re-encode it to a lower bitrate using the DVD-compliant option in CCE or TMPGEnc.

  5. If you want to use mpeg-2, then I belive you're limited to 352x480 and 702(720)x480 video. 480x480 is not a DVD standard I think (not sure). However, there is not much difference between 352x240 and 352x480, so if you want something better than VCD then 702x480 will be your best bet if you want to stay DVD compliant.

  6. Thank you, kinneera & skittelsen!
Yes, I am wondering about the settings for encoding MPEG2. I guess I'll have to come up with the new template for TMPGEnc to make it XDVD compliant.
    Any other suggestions, please?

I would have to disagree here. There is a substantial difference between those two resolutions. Where there isn't a big difference is between 480x480 and 352x480. Also, I believe the correct D1 resolution is 704x480, not 702x480 (multiples of 16, 720-16=704). And 720x480 is DVD compliant, of course.
