  1. Been having some trouble reading VCD's burned with Nero 5 in my Kiiro 838 DVD (forgot to mention it's a standalone player!), they occasionally freeze and the drive emits a fluttering noise while reading them!

Got in touch with Kiiro tech support, they said the fluttering was probably the laser loosing focus on the CD, and suggested burning the CD-RW in SAO (Session at Once) mode as this produces a 'Higher Contrast' on the burned CD rather than burning in DAO or TAO mode!! They suggested Blindwrite for the burn prog!

Does this sound like a valid response! I'm not doubting the tech guy, just wondered if anyone else has heard of SAO mode making more readable CD's than burning in DAO or TAO modes, because it's the first time I've heard about it!!

I'm using Ricoh and Memorex High Speed CD-RW's burned at 10x! I tried lower burn speeds initially but the problem still persists!

Guess I'll try a few experimental burns with Blindwrite and see what happens!

  2. Hi,

I also have a Kiiro 838d (just bought it) and although audio CDs, MP3 and DVDs play fine I am having trouble playing VCD / SVCD written to CDR/CDRW using Nero 5.5. The playback is blocky, jerky and the sound pops and crackles. I believe you have been having similar problems.
Have you found a suitable solution? The Kiiro claims to play all formats, yet to be convinced...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards.

This sounds like a load of crap (from a purely technical point of view).

However, if your player is having problems reading a CD-RW disc (i.e., it wasn't designed for it), sometimes burning at a lower burn speed (or simply a different one) can help. Different brands of CD-R/W can definitely make a difference.

SAO vs. DAO shouldn't make any difference whatsoever (but if you are desparate, there is no reason not to try it... they are CD-RW after all).

    Regards.
