Anyone using the Nero MPEG-2/SVCD Plugin?

Greetings...Does anyone use the Nero MPEG-2/SVCD Plugin (http://www.nero.com/en/mpeg2p.htm)? Is it required to burn SVCD's on Nero?

The reason I ask, I have not been successfull in burning a SVCD with Nero 5.5.7.2 from a MPEG-2 file created in TMPGEnc using the SVCD Template. The MPEG-2 file plays fine on MS Media Player 7.1 so I am guessing that the problem is either Nero or my Pioneer DV-440 player.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You follow the guide at vcdhelp.com, don't you ?

Did your check the ISO to be streektly compilant to the standard?
If not hte cd will be played by PC but it risks not to be played by the standalone.

I'm a newbie, and I'm trying to experiment the VCD authoring, but the few SVCDs I've made until now, I have done with TMPGEnc + Nero.

The only problem I've got is that I cannot fast forward with my Philips 711.

I've used it successfully and I've noticed a couple of things that might be of help to you. Firstly, MPEG2 written by Nero is a 480x480 resolution. The MPEG2 that you made might be of a different resolution and that may be causing the problem. I've found that the best way to record an svcd with nero is to have the source material in AVI format which Nero imports and changes to MPEG2 easily. Give this a try and see if that takes care of your problem.

What is Nero using as an encoder for the MPG2? Going from an AVI to NERO to burn as an MPG2, what is the quality?

I'm using the plug-in, with no success so far. But then, I'm now having any luck with the VCDs I've burned from Nero either.

All...Thanks for the replies. I am having some success with ULead's Movie Factory burning SVCD's. The only issue now is everything I burn plays on my standalone player in Letterbox. I am going to create a new post for that.
