  1. After all my files were lost on Fileden, I looked for another online storage. Microsoft's Skydrive was suggested, so I tried that. One thing I can't figure out, if anyone has some experience using Skydrive, maybe you can help me.
(I couldn't find any discussion forum on Skydrive, so that is why I am asking here).
When using Skydrive, for example, if I upload 10 files, and then want to send someone the link for just 1 of the files, the receiver of the link can see and download ALL 10 of the files. I just want the receiver of the link to be able to see and download the 1 file.
My question is: How can I solve this problem?
I want to upload a lot of files to Skydrive, and then when I choose in the future, selectively share a file with another user. This is so simple to do with Rapidshare, but I can't figure out how to do it with Skydrive. It seems that you have to either put files in a public folder (then ALL files in the folder can be seen with a link) or a private folder (none of the files can be seen with a link).
(Unfortunately with Rapidshare, all your files (each file) must be downloaded every 2 months, or you will lose the file. With Skydrive, you only need to log in to your account every 2 months to keep your files.)

  2. i think you would need to make a separate folder for each file if you wanted to control them that way. you'd add each contact allowed to download the file to the folder's permission list.

there used to be a way to send a link to an individual files but i don't see it anymore.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I have another question. When sending a URL link with Skydrive, the receiver (upon clicking the link), does not get a download dialogue box, but instead
    1)gets into the Skydrive website,
2)has to click "download" before getting the download dialogue box
My question is: Is there anyway to change the settings so that the receiver of the URL link immediately (upon clicking the URL link) gets the download dialogue box? (Like with Rapidshare?)

  4. you can tell them to right click on the link and save files as, if you wish, that should work ok if the file is in a public folder.

skydrive is more of an "open" system. if you allow a user into your friends list, they have access to all the shared content. so mostly you allow people into a shared "folder", like on a network.

you might want to create your own ftp server on your computer if you wish to have complete control.
