  1. Right now I have tried MeGUI and DVDFab to encode my video. MeGUI is best so far... But...

When I encode a video file to play on my psp the resolution seems to determine the aspect ratio. Yet I know with movies I have bought online at the ps3 store that the resolution is 720x480 and it plays in wide screen on both my psp and ps3. How do I get videos that I encode to behave the same way?

The only way thus far I have been able to play wide screen on the video file I encoded is to have a different resolution.

Am at my wits end here trying to figure this out....

The only thing I can think of it that the videos I buy online are done on one aspect ratio and the resulting mp4 file is then altered (a flag or something) inside the file to make the psp "think it is wide screen and play it thus. But this is just a wild guess on my part.

Can anyone out there shed any light on this?

How do I play video files at 720x480 and it be in wide screen (black bars at top and bottom if needed.) And not from left to right, which turn it into 4:3 which the psp is doing with my video files I have made.

Also.... On files I buy at the ps3 store, the psp and ps3 both return bit rate, screen resolution and file size for the video, as well as bit rate and file size for the audio. But on video files I encode it does not return bit rate information on the video file. Why?

  2. I don't have a psp, but you can try yamb to signal 16:9 flag for the .mp4 container

or you can encode anamorphic with --sar (if this is for 720x480 16:9 NTSC, use --sar 32:27)

  3. There is a --SAR option in x264/MeGUI I see something in MeGUI for DAR input but not SAR...

Aso... I noticed the DVD am trying to encode is letterboxed. But both DGIndex and MeGUI is saying it is 16:9. Could this be why it is not encoding to wide screen correctly?

  4. Where Does The PSP Get It's File Info?

OK... When you highlight a video file on the PSP and hit the triangle button, you get 3 options... Play... Delete and Information....

for example... under information on video files I have bought from the PS3 store I get...

    Resolution:720x480
    video AVC 2000 kbps
    Audio AAC 256 kbps
    Sampling 48.000 khz

But... on video files I have encoded I get this...

    Resolution:720x480
    video AVC - kbps
    Audio AAC 256 kbps
    Sampling 48.000 khz

I am assuming that because x264 encodes are not constant that the psp is actually getting the bit rate info from some place in the header of the .mp4 container itself????

I would very much like my ecodes to give a bit rate just like my bought ones do.

Question #1 How do I write this info to the mp4 container on video files I encode????

Question #2 Is there a way I can embed my thumbnails into my video files? So I do not need a separate image file in another folder.
