  1. I have been using the TMPGEnc DVD Authoring 1.6 for some time. It is easy to use and menu driven. I find myself now in a position of needing to add subtitles to the dvd's I am authoring. I know this version doesn't do it and right now I can't afford to purchase version 4. Is there a plugin for this version so that it will read subtitles? If not, what is another good program with similar useability(easy to use and menu driven) the is either free or not very expensive? I read on another site that you can add subtitles after authoring by using ifoedit. If this is true does anyone know how or a link to guide that tells you how?

A quick check of the stickies in the Subtitle Forum would have turned up this guide:

  3. I read through that guide and I was only able to successfully add the subtitles by unchecking the retain menu box. With it checked, I always get an error saying that the ifo has more than 1 pgc. So I have not been successful with this method when trying to keep the menu. I guess the best option is to just save up and purchase the tmpgenc version 4.

  4. Forget the SubtitleCreator Authoring Wizard (although even authoring without a menu gives you the same thing as what Muxman gives you by itself). The Method 2 in the guide is the better one, in my opinion. After authoring with Muxman, did that DVD have subtitles? If so, then you do the replace step using VobBlanker and then, with perhaps a little tweak afterwards, you should be good to go.

That's hardly the best option, but if you prefer an inferior payware solution, then be my guest.

  5. I will see what I can do with the method 2 later tonight. I would prefer not to have to pay much if any at all but if I am not able to get a good solution I won't have much choice(I do this as a side business and I got customer a waiting if you know what I mean).

  6. It seems to me that if you're a 'professional', you'd already know how to do this. Anyway, when you authored without menus, did the resulting DVD have subtitles? Forget about the colors or the fact that there's no menu yet - did it have subs? If so you can just skip to the VobBlanker step and stick it back into the original DVD. You'll still have to 'turn on' the subs, but how you do that is linked in the Method 2 portion of the guide. Then you'll have to also fix the colors using either PGCEdit or DVDSubEdit.

  7. Yes it did have subs. And as I am doing this as a side job I am in no a 'professional'. But I have a feeling by the time I have done this regularly for a while I will become one. Thanks for the info.

    GuiForDVDAuthor.

This does not encode to MPEG, just authoring. But it easily does subtitles, either as SRT (text) or SUP (rendered).
