I've got a video with these details:

    Code:
    Video: Windows Media Video 9 1280x720 119.88fps [Stream 00]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 44100Hz stereo 128Kbps [Stream 01]
and I want to convert it to MKV. However the file ends with .avi. Is there an easy and fast way to convert this without loosing quality?

  2. Why? It won't improve anything, and if you re-encode it you will lose quality

You might be able to with the haali muxer (gdsmux) ,comes with the haali media splitter package. All this does is swap containers. Another option is ffmpeg command line
