I just installed quicktime 7.1 and attempted to play an MPEG-4 file - the video plays in a jerky fashion. I found the following quote on one of the forums 'Install the Perian decoder; it encompasses most of the necessary codecs. Remove the others from the QuickTime folder first before you install Perian.' I would like some help with these instructions: I don't know how to install the Perian decoder and I do not know the procedure remove the other codecs from quicktime. Any help in outlining the steps to accomplish this would be appreciated.

I think thats for MAC OS. If you are on windows, I would use another player like VLC, KMPlayer, SMPlayer, MPC-HC.

QT for windows is limited in what is can decode. e.g. h.264 video with b-frames or AVC-high or other settings will cause jerky playback. You never mentioned what kind of "MPEG-4" video you have which is a very generic category that encompasses dozens of things (hint: mediainfo)
