I have a personal DVD that was copied from tape onto DVD using my Panasonic recorder. I would now like to edit it using windows movie maker or similar. But the DVD now has the file attatchments .bup and i cannot get it changed and have no idea of what to do next. Windows will not accept .bup

    Help please.
    Many thanks.

If you really want to use movie maker then try vob2mpg on the dvd and try import the mpg in wmm. You probably need a mpeg2 decoder installed, ffdshow might work fine.

Or else maybe try a dvd editor like mpeg video wizard, tmpgenc authoring works, videoredo and read https://forum.videohelp.com/topic257114.html

what i really should have written, is that every time i use a DVD program (movie maker, cyberlink, HP) it tells me it is the codecs, and that it cannot read a .bup file
Where do i go from here?

A bup file is a very small "BackUP" file, a copy of the IFO, which is a kind of index.
It isn't a video file at all.
