Cyberlink Powerdirector 6 mkv question

Hello. Im relitivly new to using powerdirector as an editing software for files, video making, ect. & Ive run into a problem. When i first got the program it had no issues at all when running the mkv files i use as source in my projects, however today when I opened it, it refuses to acknowlage them, instead presenting me with the error "An Error occured when opening this media file in the Media Library". I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling the codecs for mkv files, and nothing thus far has worked. I have even loaded previous projects that used mkv files, which will open but the moment an mkv file is messed with the error occures all over. If anyone could please let me know how to get the program to read the mkv files again I would greatly appreciate it, especially as I am in the middle of working on a video & because of this cannot continue.
