Back in like 1980-82 in our school library we had these film viewers that were available that used a type of cartridge that ran for maybe 5 min or so. They were silent and I am going to guess used either 8MM or 16MM film. the cartridges were about half the size of a standard VHS tape. The films were silent (I think). The screen was built in rather than projected onto a wall. We use to watch films of volcanos spewing lava and such. Anyway, does anyone remember these things and what were they?
Just curious.

I remember a similar product, and I think it was a Dukane. That picture isn't quite right but it kind of looks like it. Thanks for the flashback.

PS: You might find it in this archive of old projection stuff:

I remember seeing these (or something similar) when I was at Primary school in the UK around 1973/74. It was the Volcano film as well.

If memory serves me right, they contained 8mm (super 8?) film and the film in the sealed cartridge was on a continuous loop.Cole

That could very well be it. And yes I forgot to mention in my post it was on a contiuous loop. What I wouldn't give to see some of those things again.

 Thanks for the info guys!!!

That takes me back to the good old days.
