Hello,
I am encoding my movies to H.264. I want to have english sub titles.
What file type should I use? MKV or MP4?
And is it possible to change a MKV file to MP4? I have a few MKV movies ...
Thank You,
Miguel

They are just containers, and you can change containers at any time

If this is for PC playback MKV is generally preferred, because it supports more audio &video formats, as well as subtitles formats - many of which mp4 does not. However, some devices do no support mkv, and only mp4 - not a problem if it's only for PC

Arent the new divx 7 hardware players going to change that with the adoption of MKV? Many popular players like the popcorn hour, Western digital HD player, etc etc already play MKV so i would choose MKV, i only use MP4(h264+aac) for streaming videos.Originally Posted by poisondeathrayI love it when a plan comes together!

Yep many devices already support mkv. And it's easy to switch back and forth between mp4 without re-encoding , so it's not an issue.
