I got a Canopus ADVC110 today. Went over the instructions and connected it to my Win2k workstation. Win2k recognized the the 110 as a DVCam and said it would search for a driver for it. Dumbass that I am, I clicked okay.
It installed a driver called DVCam.sys and then gave me the BSOD. When I rebooted it went right into the BSOD. I unplugged the 110, went back in and tried to look in hardware devices for someway to uninstall. No sign of it.
I plugged the 110 back in and booted into Win2k in safe mode. Still, nothing in hardware devices that lets me recognize it. Nor does hardware devices report any sort of problem with any device connected.
Anyone know what I can do to correct this? I went to the Grass Valley site, but they don't have a support forum.

Just guessing, but look in the Windows folder, 'System32' and see if you find 'DVCam.sys'. You may be able to delete it and start over. If no luck there, check the registry. Back up the registry before making any changes.
You can get there by typing ' regedit ' in a command window.
I'm not that familiar with W2000, so I don't know how it handles FireWire. But most times with XP or others, the FireWire driver is already installed.
What motherboard are you using? Is the FireWire input on the motherboard or on a PCI card? For either one, I would be looking there if the ADVC needs some sort of FireWire driver.
And welcome to our forums. -
Well, I've had a heck of night. I did delete the DVCam.sys but I still had no luck using the advc110 on Win2k. I was using Adobe Premiere 6.5. So, I tried to install the Edius demo that came with the device but it won't install on Win2k. Now, I'd had it. The computer I use is offline anyway, so I used a winxp pro disc I have, backed up files I cared about and let the install reformat the harddrive. Bye, bye win2k. Hello WinxpPro. I installed Adobe Premiere 6.5 and plugged in the Canopus. No luck. Checked out the hardware device prog. XP wants a driver for the device.
I was trying to capture footage from a homemade VHS through a JVC SVHS player. But the 100 wouldn't even choose between digital or analog. Both lights stayed on.
All my dip switches are set right. Damn, I bought this unit based on the feedback for it on this site. Don't tell me I have to be one of the few to have a bad experience.
That's all for tonight. I'll check to see any suggestions tomorrow sometime. -
Just a follow up. It turned out my firewire card was defective. Replaced it and everything is fine.
