i am trying to rip a dvd on mac the ripper and put it in .mov format or something so that i can reead it with my final cut and edit it.
but the format is all wrong. any suggestions?

What did it produce ?
DVDs are Mpeg-2 (generally, although mpeg-1 is permissible) in the VOB container. If MTR only rips, you still have VOBs. Because you are working on a Mac, you probably have to re-encode the video to another format so FCP can open it, in which case you probably need to use something like Handbrake.Read my blog here.
