  3. Does your MPG video have an AC3 soundtrack? Do you have an AC3 decoder installed? If not, click on the link: AC3filter. Download and install it.

  5. If your MPG file has AC3 audio you will need an AC3 audio decoder to hear it. You can use a tool like GSpot to examine your MPG file to see if it has audio and, if so, what type of audio it is. If it has no audio you will have to figure out why WinAvi didn't convert the audio from your RMVB source.

  7. You have MP2 audio. It's unusual that you can't play the audio -- a basic Windows installation includes an MP2 decoder in quartz.dll. Do you get any error message when you play the file? Mabye WinAvi created the MP2 audio but couldn't decode the RMVB audio so it is silent.

Open your MPG file in GSpot. Down at the bottom of the GSpot window, under MS A/V, press [1] then [2]. Do you see any error messages (highlighted in red in the window to the right)? Do the video and audio play? If you don't see any error messages then the MPG file has an audio track but it is silent. That means WinAvi failed to convert decode the audio from the RMVB source. You may need to find a DirectShow are ACM decoder for the RMVB audio codec.

the gspot said :"Partial render failure:Following is the error reported by Directshow
    0x00040258:[unknown]
More specifically, video could be rendered, but the audio could not:
It looks like i need use the other convertor!

by the way how to use the Download Vorbis Ogg ACM Codec 1.0!

I use the other convertor like format fantory setup1.65 also can convert with sound but is slow and too big .So i like using winavi because is fast and not big(video file).
Some file winavi can convert nicely(with videoand sound),but some video file only has video but no sound. However ,when i using the other convertor like ffsetup1.65,nothing wrong which got sound and video(with same video file),the problem is too big.

  10. Try this: click on Windows Start button then select Run. Enter the following command:

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\quartz.dll

then press the OK button. See if your MP2 audio plays.

If you play this file do you get audio? (just beeps): test.mpg
